Oh my god.

*shakes head in disappointment..*

This is wrong on so many levels, it's unbelievable.

Lesson one: If you're gonna make a battle track, for fuck sake, BATTLE! This is like a lyrical bitchslap. Degrading. Speak up! Don't whisper loud, shout! You have to show who's boss.

Lesson two: Lyrics. They aren't bad, but you should seriously improve on your rhythm. Hiphop is generally 75-95BPM. This sounds like it's 130-140. That's to fast, man. Which brings us to..

Lesson three: The beat. I'll start off with saying that you should immediately stop using standard FL Studio samples (it is blatantly obvious you use it, which is a bad thing) UNLESS you can mix them to the level they're unrecognisable. You have to learn how to master your tracks. You seriously need to throw in some reverb on the piano and certain elements of the beat. You also need to get some new and more punchy drum samples.

I'm not going to lie. This is bad, but we all started out experimenting. You should take the advice from the reviews you're getting seriously. That's the best way to learn. Keep making audio... although it is probably more listener-friendly if you keep it on the instrumental side for now. Your voice is quite.. yeah. Maybe in a few years.

Alriiiiight.

A quite typical song of yours, in a positive way. ;)

I'm not to familiar with trance music, so unfortunately I can't really review you on any technicalities,

To me, the intro and outro both seemed perfectly fine the way they are. All these people moaning about it not being fast enough is pretty much bull. It stays true to it's genre and it doesn't disappoint. There's a lot of side-synths to keep the listener focussed, if it weren't for them I'd agree with the rest, but the way the track is right now? I honestly can't spot any major flaws.

Though your leads and progression are relatively generic. (Emphasis on relatively.)

I felt like giving you some props. None of the other reviewers seem to have done so, but I believe that respect must be given when respect is due. This is one of those occasions. Good job.

Kr1z responds:

First of all, thanks for listening!

I'm glad you understand my point :)
Long buildups and intros are part of the genre :)
I did everything in my power to make it not boring. (It's kinda stupid to see ppl still complaining about it)

Thanks so much for the props! I worked very hard on this piece and I'm glad you liked it!

I need to go to the bathroom.

Can I watch?

Sounds pretty damn swell.

Nice track you have there. It sounds like a battle-themed track, for use in medieval games or movies. I must say I'm impressed, it's a good composition. Although there's one small thing that bothered me and that's the background drums. They're a bit powerful, to powerful. Those short hits don't seem to fit in the 'theme' very well. It sounds distinctively like short gunshots, but that might just be me, haha.

Overall a very good track. Though the drums bothered me slightly, it makes very little difference to the overall awesomeness.

P.S. I'd appreciate it if you could check out my work aswell. :-)

EvilRaccoon responds:

Haha, absolutely! Thankyou for the review! I appreciate your comments. :)

Vaguely reminds me of ..

The desert theme from Golden Sun. It's quite similar, yet distinctive. I really like the strange mix of jungle(?) percussion and more arabic sounds. It's gives this track the whole hero-awakening-in-a-distant-land feeling. This would be a good piece for a game soundtrack. ;)

Great track, it's quite original, well mastered, well produced. Good job.

Hades responds:

Golden Sun? Can't really say that I ever saw it. Game or movie? (too lazy to use Wikipedia ;D) The exotic percussions have always been a secret favorite of mine, but I found that it isn't that easy to find room for them in every song. That's why I actually STARTED making this song by writing the simple tabla part. And hey, I guess it turned out pretty OK. ;D Thanks for the review, I appreciate it!

Impressive.

Sweet buildup with the low volume hihat in the beginning and the sidechaining midway. You do need to progress more later on in the song though, else you should make this into a loop format, but seeing as you said you're new to this those mistakes will eventually rectify themselves. Good work. :)

First off, sick intro. Immediately caught and sucked me in!

Proper guitar, clean drums and I really like the kind of ambient clean guitar around 1:20. Though the structure doesn't seem to vary much. Different chords, but very alike which makes it just *slightly* repetitive. But nonetheless, it's one heck of a track man!

FarCryDX responds:

Thanks man. Well I made it for vocals to be there so I have to leave open spaces and repeat verses so the vocalist can shine.

More than words can express.

If you care for a little story, read on. If not, just be glad with the 10 and stop here. :p

Until the point I listened to this song I've never really been into trance. Still, it isn't one of my favorite genres, but this has become one of my favorite, most memorable songs over the course of today.

You see, I listened to it yesterday and it was an immediate download. It just somehow caught my attention. I wanted to see who this 'Lira Yin' was, after hearing lots of good things about you.

I've put the song on my Ipod, as this is one of those songs I can listen to and still concentrate on whatever I'm doing. It's been a troubling weekend for me, as I was supposed to meet up with a friend last Friday, but he never showed up. On my way back home however, I saw him. He was very stressed and apparantly trying to sell a gun. At first I wasn't really suprised, I just wanted to know what was going on. Unfortunately I couldn't stay with him, since I had to catch the last bus home.

I hadn't been able to contact him ever since. He didn't pick up his phone, nor did his parents and he wasn't on msn. Naturally, I was worried and started getting paranoid, thinking he might've had to sell a gun to pay off a debt or something like that.

Today, I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't focus on anything and just kept thinking about where he was. As I lay down on my bed, getting more depressed with the second, I turned on my music and just played the first song - this one. Halfway through the song, I prayed. (Which is strange, since I'm not religious.) I just prayed, hoping to figure out what had happened and why. And just that instant, he called. He told me about what had happened and that everything's fine now. His phone was out of order, he got a new one. I don't really care about the whole story, I'm just glad it's over.

So now I'm comfortably sitting behind my desk, and I feel like writing down this whole ordeal. What better place than on a review on the song that has gotten me through this all?

So, from me to you: Thanks. Thank you a lot. I know it wasn't intended, but the music is magical, and that magic expresses itself in many, strange ways.

Immense track. You have a beautiful voice. Perhaps you would care for a collab with me sometimes? I'd be honored to work with you.

Liralei responds:

I'm truly humbled that the track moved you in that way; Pulstate's music is really tremendous, and nothing brings me greater joy than to know my voice is so enjoyed. I hope everything's well now. I'm currently focusing on professional-level collaborations for now, since my university schedule has me very tight on free time, but I look forward to hearing your music grow and develop. Best wishes!

By the way, I've uploaded a remastered version, if you're interested in downloading it again. :)

No DnB, but DnP

I guess you could classify this as Drum and Piano, a new DnB subgenre. :p

It's well composed, something different than the 'standard' DnB. Nice chords, good length, variation all around. Good job, good track. Although I do think the end's a bit to sudden. You could stretch it out with a more complex piano pattern.

I think the game you're referring you with 'Boreas' is Golden Sun. Am I correct? The most powerful Mercury (water/ice-type) summon was Boreas, and it was chilly as hell. Also damaging as hell. :3

Keep it up, I think I'll listen to some of your other stuff aswell later on. ;)
